Phones and computers do not use the same installer file. Choosing the wrong version can keep an app from opening or stop it from accepting a subscription link. Before you begin, identify your operating system and download apps only from sources that are clearly published.
Start with the compatible app directory
Open the compatible app directory, filter by operating system, and read the app name and publisher carefully. ZaoGuang does not publish or distribute these apps; the directory only points to each project's public page so you can check it before installing.
For Android, Google recommends prioritizing apps from verified developers and warns that apps from unknown sources may carry phishing or malware risks. See the Android developer verification guide. Do not turn off protection just to install a file received in an unfamiliar message.
Install on Windows
- Choose Windows in the directory and open the app's release page.
- Open the installer and check the publisher name when Windows displays a warning.
- Complete the installation and open the app.
- Sign in or add the subscription link from the customer center.
- Choose a node, connect, and open a website to test it.
If Windows asks for permission to create a network connection or use the firewall, read the app name before agreeing. You do not need to disable all of Windows Defender to install a legitimate VPN.
Install on macOS
- Choose macOS and download the version that matches your Mac.
- Drag the app into Applications if the installer asks you to.
- Open the app and accept permission to add a VPN configuration when macOS shows the system dialog.
- Enter the subscription link, choose a node, and test the connection.

Install on Android
Android phones come from many manufacturers and use different settings interfaces, but the basic process is similar:
- Choose Android in the compatible app directory.
- Prefer the app's official source.
- If it is an APK, check the file name, version, and publisher before installing it.
- Open the app, allow it to create a VPN connection, and enter the subscription link.
- Turn off battery optimization for the app if the system frequently closes its background connection.
Do not install multiple APKs with the same name from different sources just to “see which version works.” When you need to download outside the app store, use only a link published by the official site and keep Play Protect enabled.
Install on iPhone and iPad
Install the app before your trip and open it once to test it. When the app asks to add a VPN configuration, iOS displays a system permission dialog. You can view installed profiles at Settings → General → VPN & Device Management.
Apple Support notes that deleting a configuration profile also deletes the settings and data associated with it. Therefore, do not delete a profile you are using until you have saved the information you need.
Add the subscription link and QR code
After buying a plan, open the customer center and go to the section for retrieving the subscription link. Depending on the app, you may be able to:
- Copy the link and paste it into the app.
- Scan the QR code with a second device.
- Open a deep link if the app supports it.
The link and QR code are private account information. Do not post them in a public group, include them in a troubleshooting screenshot, or use them on more devices than your plan allows.
Check after installation
After connecting successfully, check four things:
- The Internet still works.
- The app shows the node it is connected to.
- You can disconnect and reconnect without entering the entire configuration again.
- The subscription link can refresh the list of nodes.
Try both Wi‑Fi and mobile data if your phone will be your main device. If one network works while the other does not, record that detail so technical support can identify the cause more easily.
If two VPN apps conflict
Only one app should control the VPN connection at a time. Disconnect the old app, turn off its automatic connection mode, and try again. If the problem remains, restart the device before deleting a profile or resetting all network settings.
